One of the first things that happens when we injure ourselves is we tend to panic! Which immediately results in us forgetting some of our basic first aid. So here’s a helpful hint for those times when you don’t know what to do within the for the first 48 – 72 hours following an injury.

Follow the R.I.C.E principle

R = REST - take it easy

I = ICE – ice pack on for about 10 – 15 minutes, several times a day, to help reduce swelling & inflammation

C = COMPRESS – bandage or tubigrip to help minimise swelling

E = ELEVATE – sit or lie with the injured part elevated to help reduce swelling

“Wow I can do that” we hear you say. Great! This is simple yet effective treatment, but remember to seek professional advice as soon as possible if pain or swelling persist.
